2008 Lucky Punter
Epidemic Continues At William Hill Online
Casino
and Sport
Betting
company William
Hill
could be forgiven for hoping that the recent run of
'Punter Power' had come to an end after a quiet few
weeks on the payout front, but Saturday's Scottish
Grand National reaped another lucky win for a
Southern punter. The unnamed
customer rang up for the first time on Saturday
morning to open his account with William Hill and
after staking his first £50 wager, promptly
qualified for a free £100 bet, which he placed
on 80-1 chance Iris De Balme in the Scottish Grand
National. With Sean
Curran's runner later going on to win the Ayr Race,
the first-time punter scooped a cool £8,000
for his Free
Money Bet. William Hill have
faced a spate of lucky wins from punters in the
last few months with Northern Shop punter Fred
Craggs becoming the first betting shop Millionaire
in February, and an online customer scooping
£74,000 in a treble during Cheltenham, and
then another £68,000 with another treble the
following week. Kate Miller,
spokeswoman for William Hill, said: "This is just
another nail in the coffin that suggests we're the
place to go for punters at the moment! Iris De
Balme's victory on Saturday looked a cracking
result for the firms, but in actual fact proved the
exact opposite, with more money than usual being
placed on an 80-1 shot (125-1 with early prices).
Punter Power certainly seems to be becoming an
epidemic, and we're hoping that a cure is found
soon!" |
