2008 Punters Go
Wild About Tiger Woods Bookmakers
William
Hill have
cut the price of world number one Tiger Woods
winning the first major of the year at
Augusta. The bookies cut
the odds of Tiger Woods winning the title from 5/4
to 6/5 following a run of large wagers which
include a bet of £40,000 at 5/4. William Hill have
over thirty four-figure bets in the book for a
Tiger Woods win and over one hundred three figure
bets. The Masters is
second only to The Open in terms of golf betting
events and Hills expect up to twenty million pounds
to be wagered with the majority going on Tiger
Woods. The best backed
Englishman is Justin Rose who is currently offered
at 25/1 to be victorious on Sunday
night. "Tiger backers
have given us a pasting for years and he is
currently in the form of his life and despite the
short price punters are piling on Tiger to topple
the bookies again," said William Hill's spokesman
Rupert Adams. Tiger Woods is an
astonishing 8/1, from an opening 50/1, to win the
Major Grand Slam in 2008, a feat that will cost the
bookies an eight figure sum. "For years the
best golfer in the world was quoted at 8/1 to win
one major and it is a sign of Tiger's dominance
that he is the same price to win all four," said
William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams. William
