2008 Deschamps
Sparks Gamble On Himself For Chelsea Job Previously an
ignored 20/1 outsider, Didier Deschamps' claim that
he is a serious candidate for the Chelsea
managerial position has caused a gamble on him
which has seen William
Hill cut
his odds to 6/1 fourth favourite to get the
job. "Deschamps had
attracted very little interest at odds of 20/1, but
when he claimed to be a contender we trimmed him to
14/1 at which price we took a flurry of bets of up
to £100 a time, before cutting him further to
9/1 and then again to 6/1." said William Hill's
spokesman Graham Sharpe. "Until he put his
own name forward, no-one had been too eager to back
him and I must say that it seems to me a neat piece
of self-promotion, whether or not he is actually a
genuine runner in this race." Frank Rijkaard
remains firm favourite to get the Chelsea job with
William Hill who quote him at 13/8 and also offer
7/2 Hiddink, 11/2 Sven, 6/1 Deschamps, Mancini, 8/1
Hughes, 12/1 Scolari, 14/1 Laudrup and
Mourinho. Meanwhile,
William Hill are also offering a free money welcome
bonus to new players of their online casino -
