2008 Hull Fan's
Life Or Death Gamble A 58 year old
Hull City fan who bet that his favourite club would
reach the Premiership before he died is set for a
£1000 windfall now that they are hot
favourites to win the Championship
play-offs. Ken Jaques, from
Anlaby, contacted bookies William
Hill back
in 2003 when Hull were in the lowest division of
the Football League and struck a bet of £50 at
odds of 20/1 that Hull would make it into the
Premiership - and that Ken would still be alive to
see them do it. The bet will pay
out £1000 and William Hill's spokesman Graham
Sharpe said, "Effectively betting your life on your
team is taking devotion to the cause to the highest
possible degree. I hope Ken does collect this
season because next season's Championship looks
like being even more competitive and he might have
to live a further twenty or thirty years if they
don't do it now.' |
