Bet A Cardiff fan who
fancied his team's chances of landing an unlikely
FA Cup triumph as early as last January is hoping
to collect £9425 from William
Hill on
Saturday. The man, from
Port Talbot, placed his bet of £25 each-way at
odds of 250/1 with his William Hill's telephone
betting account on January 4. "No other Cardiff
fan had the foresight to bet as much on his side
when they were 250/1 outsiders, and I have no idea
when any club offered at 250/1 last went on to lift
the trophy - if ever!" said William Hill's
spokesman Graham Sharpe. "We would be
delighted to pay this gentleman his winnings, as a
Cardiff victory in the Cup Final will be a much
better result for us than if the favourites
win." William Hill now
make Cardiff 12/5 outsiders to win the Cup, with
Portsmouth 1/ 3 favourites. The biggest bet
William Hill have so far taken for Portsmouth is
£12,000 at 10/11 prior to their semi final
