2008 Art
Connoisseur Tops Phoenix Betting Michael Bell's
Art Connoisseur heads a small but select field of
six for this Sunday's Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the
Curragh. The Coventry
Stakes winner will be aiming to become the first
British winner of the race in 11 years, and is
rated the 6-4 favourite by William
Hill to
land the spoils. Aidan O'Brien,
who has won four of the last six renewals, has
declared two horses in the race. The Railway Stakes
winner, and current 2-1 second favourite
Mastercraftsman, and the Sea Of Marmara. The master
of Ballydoyle originally entered four in the race,
and the two that will miss the race are Gluteus
Maximus, and Egypt. Team Coolmore's
have also entered the David Wachman trained
Bushranger in the six furlong contest. The Anglesey
winner is rated a 4-1 chance to record back to back
Group successes this Sunday. Kevin Prendergast
has opted not to declare the exciting filly Shimah,
but will instead rely on Alhaban, who finished
runner-up to Mastercraftsman in the Railway Stakes
earlier in the month, while the Edward Lynam
trained Kamado completes the six runner line-up.
William Hill
spokesman Tony Kenny commented "What the race lacks
it quantity it more than make up in
quality." He continued:
"Sunday's race is without doubt the best line up
that we've seen for a two year old race this
season, and it will probably give us some major
pointers towards next year's classics. Art
Connoisseur's win in the Coventry entitles him to
be favourite for the race, but we think
Mastercraftsman will probably be vying for
favouritism on Sunday." Online bookies
SkyBet
and SportingBet
are also offering attracting betting
odds. |
