2008 Boherna And
Blonde Still Head The Betting With the first
round of the William
Hill
Steel City Cup complete, the sponsors have reopened
the outright betting and reigning champion Boherna
on Air still heads the market at 11-4. Barrie Draper's
black dog comfortably obliged punters at odds of
4-6 in the last of the first round heats last
night, but failed to capture the honour of fastest
qualifying time of the night which was reserved for
Frisby Foxwatch. The local raider clocked a smart
28.97 leaving runner-up Sibsey Showtime trailing in
his wake by six lengths. Last year's
runner-up Rev Counter was another to qualify in
comfortable fashion, turning over the 7-4 favourite
Drive on Captain with a superlative trap-to-wire
victory in 29.09. William Hill now make Chris
Allsop's-charge a 14-1 chance for the outright
competition. Kate Miller,
spokeswoman for William Hill, said: "Although last
night's first round heats didn't exactly spring any
shock surprises, there were plenty of flinging down
of gauntlets with some surprisingly fast runs.
Boherna on Air and Blonde Dino's CV's mean they
still head the betting, but some of the
lesser-known runners have shown they are not ready
to relinquish the title just because the big boys
are in town." |
