2008 William Hill
Back Sponsorship For British Harness
Racing In a move away
from their usual sponsorship porfolio,
William
Hill are
proud to reveal their first step into the unique
sport of British Harness Racing. The betting
giants, in conjunction with the British Harness
Racing Club have teamed up to stage the UK's
richest Harness Racing Series, The William Hill
British Pacing Championship. With a total
prize fund of £25,000 the Championship dwarfes
all other UK pacing contests by a significant
amount, and is already attracting considerable
support from Harness Racers in both the UK and
Ireland. Lord David Lipsey
- President of the British Harness Racing Club,
said: "This is a great day for Harness racing, and
we're delighted to work with William Hill in our
most exciting event to date. We're enthused about
the format and are thrilled to see the sport
achieving main-stream recognition. Racing fans and
punters alike, hold on to your hats! You are about
to be blown away." To be run at
Wolverhampton Racecourse throughout September 2008,
the Championship consists of three qualifying
contests (each for 12 runners) with the heats on
Friday 12th, Friday 19th, and Saturday 20th
September where the first four home will qualify.
The £12,000 to the winner Final will be held
on Friday 26th of September. The series, which
will be broadcast live in UK and Irish betting
shops via SIS, and also enjoyed by armchair viewers
on Attheraces is set to form an encore to the
regular evening cards held at
Wolverhampton. Entry to the
prestigious event will be by invitation - extended
to the best performing horses as judged by the
panel, with the top 36 acceptors split across the
three heats. David Hood,
Spokesman for Hills, said: "We're delighted to take
our first step into Harness Racing, and
particularly to work with the British Harness
Racing Club who are an establishment equally as
enthused and passionate about their sport as we
are. Harness racing continues to grow in popularity
and the sport has made giant strides to achieve the
confidence of race-goers and punters alike with a
professional outlook and increased levels of
integrity. We feel that the series will be
tremendously well-received and are proud to become
the sport's biggest sponsor with our first
event." |
