2008 Contender
McDonnell Is Outsider For Labour
Leader The only man to
declare himself a runner in the projected Labour
Leadership contest, John McDonnell is quoted at a
dismissive 50/1 outsider by William
Hill. "Mr McDonnell
will relish a little personal publicity but has
very little chance of winning any leadership
contest." said William Hill's spokesman Graham
Sharpe. However, the
bookies believe that David Miliband has a
favourite's chance of becoming the next leader and
have reduced his odds from 7/2 to 2/1 clear
favourite. William Hill make
Jack Straw 4/1 second favourite to become the next
leader with Alan Johnson at 5/1, Harriet Harman
7/1, Jon Crudass 8/1, John Denman 10/1, Ed Balls
12/1 and James Purnell 16/1. Miliband is 5/1
with William Hill to be the new leader by January
1, 2009, 4/9 still to be Foreign Secretary on that
date, 4/1 to be Chancellor then, 16/1 no longer to
be in the Cabinet and 20/1 to occupy any other
Cabinet position. Gordon Brown is
5/6 to lead the Party into the next General
Election. |
