2008 Orange Alert -
Punter Backs Ex-England Boss To Change
Name Football has been
described as a funny old game, but Steve McClaren
took it to the next level a fortnight ago - when
the former England boss decided to adopt a Dutch
accent during an interview on Dutch
television. The bizarre
interview has been watched by nearly a million
people on youtube, and the clip has even moved one
quirky Irish punter to back the Englishman to
change his name to Steve Van'
Claren. Mr. Lynch went
into William
Hill's
shop in Monkstown in Dublin, and wagered €10 at
odds of 1000-1 that the Englishman would change his
name. The plucky
Dubliner now stands to win €10,000 if the former
England boss decides to enhance his new found Dutch
heritage. William Hill
spokesman Tony Kenny commented Steve McClaren
is obviously a big fan of Dick Van Dyke - He loves
umbrella's and the Dutch, and the next step for the
former England boss could be to change his name to
Steve Van Claren." He continued: "It
definitely was a quirky bet, but let's be honest -
quirky and Steve McClaren go hand in
hand." |
