2008 New Approach
Wins Champion But Bookies Doubt Arc Is
Achievable Despite a victory
in the Group One Irish Champion Stakes, bookmakers
William
Hill have
eased out New Approach to 10-1 from 8-1 for next
month's Prix De L'Arc de Triomphe. Jim Bolger
notched up a big-race double at Leopardstown with
his charges Lush Lashes and New Approach but
the latter failed to sparkle in his victory over
Jane Chapple-Hyam's Traffic Guard. William Hill have
also moved the odds of the New Approach being the
Top-Rated Flat horse in the World at the end of
2008, and make the Derby winner 10-1 from 8-1 to
beat the likes of Curlin, Duke of Marmalade, and
Henrythenavigator. Kate Miller,
spokeswoman for William Hill, said: "Quite simply
put, that was not a good enough performance to win
an Arc. This year's field looks to be as
competitive as ever, and we will need to see New
Approach return to his Derby winning form to get
anywhere near his rivals in Paris." |
