2008 Crisis Is Good
News For Gordon Brown The odds about
Gordon Brown leading the Labour Party into the next
General Election have shortened from 4/7 to 1/2
with William
Hill, who
believe that the financial crisis has boosted the
Prime Minister's chances of surviving the threats
to his leadership. "The polls
indicating that Gordon Brown is having a good
crisis are the first glimmers of light since he
came under pressure for botching the 'General
Election that never was' and have resulted in some
punters at last being prepared to bet that he will
be able to survive long enough to lead the Party
into the next Election." said William Hill's
spokesman Graham Sharpe. His next major
stumbling block could be the forthcoming Glenrothes
by-election, for which William Hill have shortened
Labour's odds from 3/1 to 11/4, although the SNP
remain red hot favourites at 1/4. The odds about
Brown departing office before the end of the year
have lengthened from 3/1 to 4/1. William Hill have
shortened Labour from 3/1 to 11/4 to win the next
General Election, with the Tories lengthened from
2/9 to 1/4. "This is the
first time we have shortened Labour's odds this
year." said William Hill's spokesman. "But they
still remain distinct outsiders." Over in the US,
Barack Obama has been cut from 2/5 to 4/11
favourite to win the US Presidential Election with
William Hill who have lengthened John McCain from
7/4 to 2/1. |
