2008 Early Election
On The Cards? Political punters
are betting that Gordon Brown will opt for an early
General Election and bookies William
Hill have
cut their odds for the country to go to the polls
between January and June 2009 from 5/1 to
7/2. A General
Election between July and December 2009 has come
down from 6/1 to 4/1. "People think
that Gordon Brown is as popular at the moment as he
is likely to be, so he may consider a rush to the
polls to capitalise." said William Hill's spokesman
Graham Sharpe. The bookies have
lengthened the odds about a 2010 Election from 4/11
to 4/9 and offer 40/1 that it will happen before
the end of 2008. The Conservatives
are 4/11 with William Hill to emerge from the
General Election as the largest single Party, with
Labour at 2/1 and the Liberal Democrats at
100/1. UKIP
(UK
Independence Party)
could gain a massive boost from smokers in the next
General Election as they are the only main
political party to have stated in their manifesto
that they intend to repeal the unpopular smoking
ban. UKIP are
currently a 1000/1 outsider with William Hill to
win the next General Election but these odds could
tumble as more smokers and annoyed pub-regulars
learn of UKIP's manifesto pledge. A Hung Parliament
is a 2/1 chance. David Cameron is
2/5 favourite to be Prime Minister after the next
General Election. Try your luck at
