Fame And Glory Returns To The Favourite Spot

Fame and Glory returned to the head of the betting in the Investec Derby with William Hill after money reappeared for the Derrinstown Stud Trial Stakes winner following a week on the cold list.

Last week's speculation surrounding a possible Johnny Murtagh selection for Rip Van Winkle saw Fame and Glory's price drift to 7/2 (4.5) from 11/4 (3.75) but strong support this morning saw him shorten into 3/1, leaving Sea the Stars a half-a-point behind at 7/2 (4.5).

After working at Epsom at this morning's Breakfast with the Stars function, William Haggas's South Easter also came in for some support being trimmed to 33/1 from 50/1.

The Somerville Lodge trainer holds a 100% record in the Derby, saddling just one runner in the form of Shaamit who claimed the Derby prize back in 1996.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: "We have now reached the stage when every angle of Derby is being scrutinised and dissected, and so we're seeing a good spread of money as punters try to solve the puzzle. Pleasingly, momentum seems to be building up for Fame and Glory again, as we're in a bit of a hole with Rip Van Winkle and positive movement for another Aidan runner allows us some hope."
