"We had to cut the odds about Gordon Brown leaving office before the end of the year from 5/2 to 2/1 after this latest in an increasing line of setbacks." said William Hill's spokeman. The bookies have also cut the odds about a 2009 General Election from 5/2 to 7/2 with 2010 now 1/6 from 1/9. The Conservatives have been shortened from 1/2 to 4/11 to win the next General Election with an overall majority, with a Hung Parliament at 9/4 and a Labour majority pushed out from 10/1 to 12/1. Alan Johnson has been backed from 6/1 to 5/1 to succeed Gordon Brown as Labour Leader. |
