Manchester City - Hughes Sorry Now

Bookies William Hill have suspended their market on who will be the next Premier League manager to leave his club after a gamble on Mark Hughes saw his odds tumble ftom 6/1 to 2/1 as bets poured on to him on the internet, by telephone and in betting shops.

"Bets were coming from all over - punters in Glamorgan, Warwickshire,Surrey, Bristol, Essex and central London all wanted to be on and all seemed to be prepared to take whatever price they were offered." said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

"With no apparent readily available explanation to account for such a run of bets, we have decided to remove the market until we can confirm that Mark Hughes is not under immediate threat of dismissal or has not been handed any kind of ultimatum or deadline, which to us would seem to be the only way other than pure bandwagon effect to explain this gamble, which has involved strings of three figure bets."
