Bookies In A Rage After Biggest Christmas Number One Gamble Is Landed

Bookies William Hill are facing a monster payout after 'Rage Against The Machine' beat Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one.

The band's single, Killing In The Name, sold 500,000 downloads beating X Factor winner Joe McElderry's The Climb by 50,000 copies to clinch the top spot.

Just ten days ago, William Hill had Rage Against The Machine as their 100/1 rank outsiders behind Jedward in the race for number one and at the close today they had been slashed all the way in to 1/5 (1.2).

"The industry will be paying out a large six figure sum after the greatest gamble was landed in Christmas number one history. It seems that punters who stood to win thousands have been multi downloading huge numbers. We started the day with festive cheer, which turned in to festive fear and now we are just in a festive rage." said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

"The adverse weather conditions in parts of the country has prevented some X Factor fans from getting out and buying a copy of Joe's release over the weekend." said HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo.

The success follows a Facebook campaign designed to prevent another X Factor number one. The Los Angeles rock band's hit also set two records: it is the first single to reach the top of the charts on download sales alone and has achieved the biggest download sales total in a first week ever in the UK charts.

William Hill are not calling time on X Factor's dominance and make the 2010 X Factor winner their 1/3 (1.33) hot favourite to win next year.

Here at Casino Beacon, we congratulate everyone who promoted this campaign and purchased the single - preventing the Christmas number one being destroyed by the X Factor for a fifth consecutive year. We'd love to think that Simon Cowell will now piss right off but we're not holding our breath.

You can still buy Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine by purchasing the song via download from Amazon - it's costs just £0.29 to buy the track.
