After announcing that he will throw in the towel on American Idol to concentrate on his own new show a US version of X Factor, Irish bookmakers Paddy Power are quoting odds of 2/1 that the Mr Nasty of TV overtakes rival mogul and American Idol creator Simon Fuller on the Sunday Times Rich List. Like Idol, Simon Cowell's new show will air on the same Fox network which will no doubt spark fierce competition between the two Simon's but it's Cowell's X Factor who the bookies are betting will eclipse American Idol in the ratings. It's just 4/6 (1.66) with Paddy Power that X Factor US clocks up more peak viewers than American Idol when it airs in 2011 and just 3/1 that American Idol is scrapped due to dwindling viewers. The odds on both Cowell and Fuller coming to blows in the next two years are just 8/1. As for who might replace the high-waisted pop impresario, Paddy Power make Britain's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan their 3/1 favourite followed by princess of darkness and former X Factor queen Sharon Osbourne at 6/1 and David 'The Hoff' Hasselhoff at 8/1. Sharon McHugh, spokeswoman for Paddy Power said: "They're both rich beyond their wildest dreams and yet there is still fierce competition between Simon Fuller and Simon Cowell to be the best at what they do. After nine years running, Idol is something of a dinosaur and without Cowell on the panel it could soon be extinct." |
