William Hill Announce New Derby

Bookies William Hill have been confirmed as the new sponsors of the Greyhound Derby at Wimbledon in a deal for 2010 which encompasses all major competitions at the South London track.

Making the announcement on Sky Sports last night, David Hood, Director of Racing at William Hill revealed that the two company's have also wrapped in an exclusive content agreement for William Hill to screen all trial stakes and rounds of each competition throughout their extensive retail estate and online business.

The agreement between the GRA and William Hill has secured support for the Greyhound Derby, Oaks, St Leger, Springbok, Grand National and Puppy Derby.

David Hood, Director of Racing for William Hill said: "We are delighted to announce our repeat sponsorship of the Greyhound Derby. The deal comes at a time of great change for Wimbledon but I am confident that the transition will deliver improvements in both viewing and facilities at Plough Lane and we expect to enjoy some great racing. The sport faces some huge challenges, not least of all from the recession, but for now at least, these competitions are secure."

Clive Feltham, CEO of GRA said: "It is to be a repeat sponsorship of Greyhound Racing's Blue Riband by William Hill, who last sponsored the Derby when Westmead Hawk secured his second victory in 2006."

The prize-money for the 2010 William Hill Greyhound Derby will be £75,000 to the winner with a £25,000 bonus purse should the winner go on to lift the William Hill Classic at Sunderland in July and a further £50,000 top-up if they complete the William Hill Triple-Crown and take the All-England Cup at Newcastle in November.

As a further bonus for all the Derby finalists, a further £12,000 bonus pot is being made available which ensures that any greyhound lining-up in the 2010 Derby final is eligible to a £2000 bonus if they reach the final of the Sunderland Classic.
