With punters in recent weeks having been flirting with odds on there being no party winning an election majority at odds of 9/4 (3.25), today's reaction has seen a return to a Conservative win at just 1/12 (1.08). Labour meanwhile remain distant outsiders at 6/1 for a fourth consecutive election victory. YouGov's poll today is given further credence in that the research firm has been backed to be the bookie's favourite for the most accurate pollster in forecasting the General Election result at 5/2 (3.5). Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: "Labour chiefs may gloss over the report with the usual claims "they are getting on with the job" but voters and punters clearly think they haven't done much of a job so far. As a result the only betting market Labour is receiving any interest for is who will replace Gordon Brown following the failed coup last week and now YouGov's damning polls." David Miliband is increasingly being seen as the Labour leader elect having emerged as a clear 3/1 favourite from odds of 9/2 (5.5) at the end of the year. The Foreign Secretary has now received twice as many bets on him as his nearest challenger Alan Johnson at 7/2 (4.5). Despite looking to position himself as the figure of unity in the Labour Party, Ed Miliband has been leap-frogged by his brother in the betting at 4/1.
