Optimistic Despite Jobless Jump The number of
people signing on in the Republic has increased by
13,300 in the last five weeks according to the
latest Live Register figures bringing the number of
unemployed to a staggering 436,900. Despite the jump
in job losses however, bookmakers Paddy
Power are
taking a positive outlook and betting we'll see a
turnaround in the last quarter of this
year. It's an unlikely
10/1 that we'll see any progress in the first
quarter but the odds on unemployment numbers
falling later this year look optimistic at 7/4
(2.75). Sharon McHugh,
spokesperson for Paddy Power said: "Obviously the
latest figures look bad and will be a huge concern
to those currently out of work but on a more
positive note there's been a small drop in
unemployment figures in Northern Ireland and our
punters remain hopeful there'll be a
turnaround." Next week, the
