Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse on 3
October 2008. The six-furlong
Group One for two-year-old fillies is sure to be
one of the features of the 2008 autumn season at
Newmarket and is titled the 32 Red Cheveley Park
Stakes. It is a race with a tremendous history -
not least in recent years - and with this year's
renewal prize fund of £170,000 it should
encourage a number of the sport's best two-year-old
fillies to the race. The race is part
of the autumn season of races at the historic
Newmarket course, with nine race days in total
making up this year's season. The Cheveley Park
Stakes was first run more than a century ago in
1899 and is the fillies' equivalent of the Middle
Park Stakes. The winner is usually prominent in the
ante-post betting for the following season's 1,000
Guineas and a host of top class horses have emerged
victorious and defined careers in recent
years. Last season saw
subsequent 1000 Guineas winner Natagora lead home
Fleeting Spirit in a particularly strong running of
the contest, while this time around, Flying
Childers winner Madame Trop Vite, Queen Mary Stakes
scorer Langs Lash and Irish Thoroughbred Marketing
Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Please Sing are in line
to present a stiff domestic challenge. Ed Ware of 32 Red
