Spain A Pain As He Wins
£315,000 A
William
Hill
client is £315,000 better off after Spain won
the Euro
2008
tournament. The
Hampshire-based businessman staked £50,000 on
Spain to win the tournament at odds of 11/2 and an
additional £55,000 on them to beat Russia in
one of the opening games of the event. He made
£275,000 profit from the outright bet and
£40,000 from the match bet. "Spain are a pain
as far as bookies are concerned - their triumph has
cost the industry millions and this gentleman's
haul is the topping on the paella. All William Hill
staff are banned from holidaying in Spain for the
forseeable future.' said William Hill's spokesman,
Graham Sharpe. One William Hill
customer from Bedfordshire staked £40,000 on
Germany to win the final. Another had £20,000
on them to win the tournament. William Hill now
make Spain 13/2 third favourites to win the World
Cup (Argentina and Brazil are 5/1 joint
favourites), and 28/1to win both the World Cup and
Euro 2012. |
