Andy Murray A Good Thing For Wimbledon Betting?

Bookies William Hill rate British number one Andy Murray as a 20/1 shot to win Wimbledon with the industry facing a possible seven figure payout were he to win.

Bookies SkyBet are offering slightly more attractive odds of 25/1 for an Andy Murray victory.

William Hill are betting on the stage of Andy Murray's elimination and he is favourite to get as far as the quarter finals (9/4), when he is scheduled to meet Rafa Nadal. The good news for tennis fans is that Hills have slashed the price of a totally rain free Wimbledon from 8/1 to 3/1 as the forecast suggests a fantastic few weeks.

"A British winner at Wimbledon would be a disaster for the bookies but much like the weather things are looking pretty sunny on both fronts." said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

William Hill are expecting up to £100 Million to be gambled over the Wimbledon fortnight. They have already accepted bets of up to £30,000 on Roger Federer and £11,000 on Nadal.

William Hill are offering odds of 6/4 that Federer and Nadal contest the men's final.

Andy Murray kicks off his Wimbledon 2008 campaign today against Santoro and SkyBet are offering the following match odds:

  • Murray Win - 1/14 (1.07)
  • Santoro Win - 13/2 (7.50)

Online ticket site Seatwave are still selling Wimbledon tickets.
